Get Your Book Fix at Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020 This V Day

Don’t have a date this February 14? Who needs one when you’ve got piles and piles of books to sort through and burn all the money you’ve saved from being single.

Gather your tote bags and ready your stamina (and your wallet) for Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020– the “biggest book sale in the world”. The sale is returning this Love Month where over 17,000 new titles will be up for grabs! It also doubles as a reading advocacy project, so ditch the Forever Alone mentality and prepare to unite with fellow bibliophiles!

The much anticipated happening will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay. It will be a 24-hour affair that will welcome the hordes of bookworms beginning this Valentine’s Day up to February 24. A special preview for the media will be held on February 13 from 9 pm to 12 midnight.

Admission is free, which is a good thing because you need all the money you have to get your hands on a staggering total of 2 million books on sale. Expect all kinds of genre like fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, academic textbooks, and perhaps even that obscure Japanese esoteric thriller manga you’ve been pining for.

If you think this is just your usual run-of-the-mill booksale, get a hold of this: the main draw will be the “Crazy Deals”, which will be cutting down book prices by 50 percent. Some will even have their regular retail prices slashed up to 90 percent!

(Point of context: A decent bouquet of flowers costs 1,500 pesos – something that will wither and die in a few days. Get more than your money’s worth with books that, with love and care, will last you a lifetime. Inked paper over fragile petals all day, everyday!)

Big Bad Wolf isn’t really bad at all. It’s just misunderstood. It’s actually very generous and has pledged its support to help those affected by the Taal eruption through its partner, Gawad Kalinga Foundation.

All our peeps in the other parts of the country shouldn’t be FOMO-ed as the event isn’t exclusive to Manila. It is, in fact, part of a franchise that started in Malaysia in 2009 by Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng – founders of the online bookstore BookXcess. Touted as the World’s Biggest Book Sale, Big Bad Wolf is also promoted as “a global reading advocacy effort”.

The sale has been in the country for a total of five times. Cebu, Pampanga, and Davao had also hosted the Big Bad Wolf. Be sure to watch out for future dates!

The event also holds installments in other Asian countries like Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, South Korea, and United Arab Emirates.

How to get to the Big Bad Wolf in World Trade Center

The easiest route is via the LRT 1 Yellow Line. Take the train going to Taft and get down at Gil Puyat/Buendia Station. Ride a Buendia-Ayala-Leveriza bus, or a jeep with a Roxas Boulevard/SM Mall of Asia signboard. This will pass by World Trade Center.
