McKinley Hill will Start Screening “Float-in” Movies Aboard Gondolas this December

After SM Supermalls introduced drive-in cinemas in July, real estate giant MegaWorld ups the ante by sharing that come December, they will be launching the Philippines’ “first and only float-in cinema” at the Venice Grand Canal in McKinley Hill, Taguig.

MegaWorld made the announcement on Facebook last November 20, although details about schedules and reservations are still under wraps.

Pre-pandemic, gondola rides were a popular activity in the Venice Grand Canal, which was inspired by Italy’s famous canal. The float-in cinema attempts to not only innovate movie viewing experience, but also to revive gondola rides in the new normal.

According to MegaWorld, each gondola will be limited to two people during movie screening. The gondolas will be fitted with personal earphones to block out noise for viewers as they watch movies on a massive 12.7 meter x 6.7-meter screen along the canal.

Tickets will sell at P500 per viewer, and come with a medium-sized popcorn and bottle of water. Minimum health and safety protocols, including wearing of face masks, must be observed at all times.
